November is going to be too busy for me to write this year. But I had a great story in mind, so I wrote the novel in September instead. It's titled Flyover Country and it's a near-future adventure story.

I cheated a little on the 50,000 words by including an author's note. But rules are rules and it still counts.

I used Google Docs this year instead of Scrivener. The version of Scrivener for Linux hasn't been updated in ages and I hardly ever use most of its fancy features. It was especially nice to be able to write on my novel from anywhere with a network connection. I did a lot of writing on my Chromebook in a comfy chair.

But, there were features of Scrivener I missed. Chief among them was the outline mode or just having separate pages for the chapters or scenes that could be viewed as one. I could have broken the story up manually, but the Google Docs UI doesn't lend itself to easy navigation between related documents or viewing several at once. (Or, if it does, I haven't found it.)

I may write in Google Docs again. I'll have to decide the next time I start a story. But for the next few months, I'll be focusing on other things.
