I was a little late in getting started on my garden this year, but I think it worked out for the best. We had such a cold spring that it was miserable outside until very recently. Now that it's warming up, the only challenge is getting gardening done in between bouts of rain.
This year I built another pseudo raised bed for annual vegetables. It's really just wooden edging, but it does seem to keep the majority of the grass out of the garden, so I thought a non-herb bed would be worth it.
I also wanted to grow sugar snap peas and pole beans, so I built a simple trellis for them to grow up. After sinking the posts into the ground, the trellis really isn't tall enough (only about 4 feet tall), but it should work.
Some of the perennial herbs are coming back and I sowed seeds for others. Some of the seeds were old, so they may not germinate. We'll see. This bed is half-full of baby trees from the Arbor Day this year. None of them have budded yet, so they may not have survived the winter. If not, I'll get some herb plants from the store instead. The rhubarb is coming along nicely and I should be able to make some rhubarb cobbler next weekend.
And now, some gratuitous flower pictures from around the garden and yard. Happy spring!
(Also, my awesome garden Jawa, a garden gnome for geeks.)
