Recently, I was playing around with the Kindle app for the Mac. I was curious how the syncing worked, so I wanted an eBook to practice with. But since I was just practicing, I didn't want to spend a lot of money.

Conveniently enough, Amazon.com suggested a free book for me: Treasure Island. I figured it didn't matter for a book I was just using to sync with, so I got it. Once I was done playing with the syncing, I started to read a few pages. Then a few pages after that, I decided l would keep reading.

l thought it was a good story. A few times I wanted to strangle the main character, but it was generally a pleasant romp. And while it seemed that this story was over-using all the pirate cliches, according to Wikipedia, this story started many of the pirate cliches we all know and love.

But for all the "yo ho ho and a bottle of rum" lines in the book, it is not very flattering to pirates. So if you're looking for a romantic pirate story, this isn't it. But as adventure stories go, this is a pretty good one.
