This morning I got up ridiculously early to get on a plane. Powered flight still amazes me at times, as does the nonchalant way we experience it. I got to have breakfast and watch a movie while flying through the air 30,000 feet above the ground. Absolutely astounding. And, I got to see a beautiful sunrise out the window of the plane.
After experiencing the full breadth of two concourses of Houston's airport, I boarded my plane for San Jose, CA. The last time I flew to San Jose with a connecting flight, I was stranded in Phoenix for 12+ hours. This time, there was far less drama. The plane ride was relatively smooth and I got in on time.
Since I arrived early by CA standards, I had some time to kill. I was able to check into the hotel early and then left for the Rosicrucian Ancient Egypt museum. Their collection of daily life stuff was good and there were some very nice coffins and mummies. I particularly enjoyed the Armana period collection, which had more artifacts than I remember seeing elsewhere.
After the museum, I went to the Faultline Brewing Company for some dinner and beer. I had tasty nachos and good beer. This is a time when being a grown-up is nice.
Tomorrow it's back to the grind stone, but I had a fun day being a tourist.
