Now that I have a shiny new car, I'd like to keep it running well for a long time. The manual has the recommended maintenance in the difficult format of "x miles or y months, whichever comes first". Ugh.
I can easily add reminders to my calendar or todo list app for time based intervals. Miles are a more challenging problem. Unless the odometer is rolling over to a cool looking number, I just don't notice the value. I can setup a weekly or monthly reminder to check the odometer, but that feels like a hack.
Willie's suggestion was to attach a note with the odometer reading for the next service to the dash directly under the odometer. That way, until the numbers match, I don't have to think about service.
With as much as I drive, I'm more likely to hit the "y months" limit before the "x miles" limit, so the calendar may be sufficient for me. But, I'll feel better having the mileage reminder, too.
